Morse Marathon Fall 2022 Wrap-Up

Morse Marathon 2022 was AMAZING! 🙌

First, the thank you's:

💙 Thank you to the Morse School staff who organized and ran the event.

💙 Thank you to all our volunteers! Without you, this event cannot happen.

💙 Thank you to our community who turned out to support our Morsels as they participated, cheering them on and adding to the festive atmosphere.

💙 Thank you to everyone who sponsored a student, contributing to Friends of the Morse School's fundraiser.

💙 Thank you to Mayor Siddiqui who greeted the students when they returned to school and helped hand out their participation medals.

Next, the recap:

What a way to spend a glorious fall in New England morning! The kiddos participated in two shifts. They walked across the footbridge from the school to Magazine Beach fields and were greeted by Mr. Casey doing his DJ thing, along with tons of families and other community members lining the marathon track, cheering. Mr. F got things started with some warm-ups, inviting the 5th graders to come up front and demonstrate. Then they were off! Some kids ran the whole time. Some ran + walked. Some skipped. Some held hands. A few slipped in the mud, especially during the first shift. All proudly displayed their colorful Morse School bandanas (a gift from FMS) and seemed to enjoy the event. Lots of smiles! At the end of each shift, everyone gathered back by the DJ and had a dance party! Back at the school entrance, Mayor Siddiqui and other staff members were waiting with participation medals for each kiddo.

Such an amazing event. We are already looking forward to next year!

  • Stipend for each classroom
  • Field trips
  • International Festival
  • Providing snacks and drinks at family and community events
  • Staff appreciation week
  • Family support
  • and much more (come to a meeting to find out more about budget details)

Volunteering: we need 25 to 35 volunteers to staff the event, keeping students on the course, making sure water is available, helping them around the inevitable giant mud puddles, etc.

The Morse Marathon

The Morse Marathon is an annual school-wide fun run/walk that takes place at Magazine Beach Park along the Charles River. The event, which is organized by parents and teachers, is aimed at promoting fitness and community. It also helps to raise funds for the Friends of the Morse School, a volunteer organization of parents and caregivers that supports enriching learning experiences for the Morse students. Staff and students from every grade level - Junior Kindergarten through Grade 5 - participate in the event.

The Fall 2021 Morse Marathon was a huge success!  Some children ran or walked for over 20 laps on our quarter-mile "marathon" course on a glorious New England fall day. The community support was overwhelming - we had more volunteers than we knew what to do with, and the course was lined with folks cheering on our Morse students. AND we raised about $7,500, achieving our fundraising goal.

Please help us reach this year's stretch fundraising goal of $8,000. Whether $5 or $500, every bit helps. To learn more about the Friends of the Morse School, keep perusing our website!
